Gerard O'Neill writes a great article on Medium's Backchannel about the high barriers to entry that confront people from less fortunate backgrounds when they contemplate pursuing a career in technology.
It goes to show why programmes around the world like the One Laptop Per Child and the e-Learning initiative continue to remain relevant.
What really surprised me about this particular feature was that it illustrated using a real world example that these problems pertaining to the lack of tools, access to the internet and poor education plague even the richest countries among us and are just as evident in the disadvantaged areas of America.
